The exact identity of the Ravenea Species known as Majesty Palm is somewhat uncertain at this writing. Thowgh widely labeled in the nursery industry as Ravenea rivularis, a tall growing species, material in cultivation strongly resembles Ravenea Glauca, a species not known to exceed 20' in height and frequently smaller. Majesty Palm is currently finding its widest use as an interior plant. An initial flurry of excitement over its landscape possibilities weakened when it was found to require frequent fertilization or else moderate shade in order to maintain a healthy green color. Majesty Palm very quickly reaches about 10' in height, at which point growth slows considerably. Its fast growth rate, interesting trunk, and shade tolerance makes it a fine addition to tropical landscapes where it can be situated under the canopy of tall trees to good effect. |
